  1. This was a very interesting and enlightening post to read. Thanks for all the effort that your put into it!

  2. This is so fantastic, Eb! You’ve answered so many questions, which I am sure so many of us have been wondering about, so thank you for putting this together. Some of the data came as no surprise but some of it truly shocked me. I had no idea sponsored posts could be so lucrative! Shared on Twitter.

    1. Aw, thanks Monika. It was a lot of hard work, but I really enjoyed putting it together… and discovering so many fascinating insights. Thanks so much for sharing! Eb 🙂

  3. Thank you Eb, this is such useful data. And I love the way you’ve put it all together so that it’s really easy to understand. Something to keep us all motivated!

  4. hi, I found link to this post in one of the FB threads and I am very glad – you put so much work into it, and its eye opening. At least now i know i shouldn’t accept sponsored post for less they 300 US dollars, thanks

    1. You are very welcome! I am so pleased you found it useful… and has encouraged you to put up your sponsored post rates 😀

  5. Thank you, Eb! We fellow bloggers appreciate all the hard work putting this together! This was very enlightening! As a brand new blogger (less an one month in), I was getting really concerned about traffic, so I know I just need to keep at it!

Good points about sponsored posts, too. It pains me to see bloggers working for free product. We’re essentially doing very deeply discounted advertising work for companies, and we need to be valued more! It takes significant time and effort to put together a creative post with beautiful photos and good writing.

    1. Aw, thanks Jenn – I am so glad you found this useful! And yes, I think it’s really hard in the early days… you are putting stuff out there and not getting much traffic. It can feel like a ghost town. But – as these stats show – that’s totally normal! You just need to push through this hard phase, keep doing all the right things, and hold your nerve… because blogging really rewards perseverance! Eb 🙂

  6. This is such a fantastic resource. I’ve only had time to skim it yet, but can’t wait to sit and read all of it. Thank you for putting this together.

  7. Thank you 🙂

I stopped blogging after one year because of the low page views.

I got the feeling why should I blog if nobody reads it?

But I love what I do and if there is a chance it will get better, I am totally willing to try again 🙂

    1. Aw, I am sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the first year is often a little like a ghost town, as it takes time to get traction, but – as these statistics show – it is well worth persevering as there is often a snowball effect long term! I am glad you love what you do and I hope you do pick it up again and see some real success with it! Eb 🙂

  8. Of the 146 respondents, how many sites were in each ad network? I’m curious to know if there’s something more we can dig out of the data for when we’re deciding which ad network we’ll use.

    1. Good question! Fairly small datasets for each ad company (Mediavine had the largest representation), but pretty consistent numbers within each dataset. And data from this survey also seems fairly consistent with other statistics and anecdotal data that I’ve seen on this subject. If you’ve got the numbers, go with Mediavine or AdThrive. If not, the best of the rest seems to be Ezoic – and by quite some way.
